Could wine be the solution to Anti-Ageing?
13 November 2014
We’ve all heard that a glass of wine a day can be good for your health but does this popular tipple also have Anti-Ageing benefits? Vinotherapy is the latest Anti-Ageing trend and involves bathing in red wine to help prevent unwanted wrinkles.
So how does it work? Well, it’s all down to the antioxidants which are created during the wine-making process. These antioxidants have been found to be ten times more effective at wrinkle prevention than vitamin E.
What’s more, the leftover pulp residue from the wine-making process is a great exfoliator, leaving your skin silky smooth – not to mention that resveratrol is found in red wine, which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
Some experts are sceptical however. British Consultant Vascular Surgeon Professor Mark Whiteley said: “There is no logical way you can benefit from red wine by lying in it.
“Yes, research shows that red wine increases ‘good fat’ called high-density lipoprotein, and this clears out ‘bad fat’ – low density lipoprotein – from blood vessels. But this effect is gained by drinking it, not lying in it. You can’t ‘drink’ through your skin”.
