Expert discusses solutions for your ageing neck

You might think a sagging neck is something only older people need to worry about – and that used to be the case. Nowadays however, Turkey Neck (as it’s often referred to) is a growing cause for concern for adults of all ages. And it all comes down to increased use of technology.
Constantly looking down at your mobile phone or tablet computer causes permanent creases on your neck, with experts dubbing this “tech neck”. So how can you care for your neck and prevent premature ageing?
New York based Dermatologist Dr. Jessica Krant explains the importance of sun protection: “Our necks get almost as much sun as our faces every day. We remember to protect our faces, but hardly ever think about our necks.”
As well as sun protection, it’s important to keep your neck hydrated and moisturised. The skin on your neck is thinner and more susceptible to irritation than the skin on your face, so when moisturising, take care to be gentle, using the back on your hand to apply cream in an upward motion. Formulas designed for use on the neck can help you avoid irritation.
There are also treatments which can help give your neck a rejuvenated appearance. Until recently, only surgical options such as Neck Lifts were available to turn the years back on this area, but now non-invasive treatments such as Ultherapy, Intense Pulsed Light Therapy and Laser solutions can all help to tighten and firm the skin on your neck, minimising lines and wrinkles and correcting dark spots.
Krant concludes: “Often, as we get older, we are better at taking care of our faces than our necks, and the neck looks old while the rest looks fine. Don’t let that happen.”
