Expert shares three tips for perfect holiday skin

With Christmas fast approaching, it’s all about rushing to get presents bought and wrapped – not to mention the many social gatherings, indulging in plenty of food and drink as well as the added stress of ensuring Christmas Day goes off without a hitch. However, the constant running around not only plays havoc with us emotionally, but physically – with our skin suffering as a result.

“During the holiday season, we are in ‘go go go’ mode. We run on minimal sleep and eat some naughty foods and definitely have our extra share of champagne,” explains Dr Julie Russak, a Board-Certified Dermatologist based in New York City. “From mid November to the first week of January, we can really do some damage to our skin. It’s important to keep in mind during our holiday festivities, that diet, behavioural and beauty regimen changes can negatively manifest themselves on the skin.”

Thankfully, Dr Russak highlights three helpful Skin Care tips. Firstly, try to get at least eight hours of sleep a night. “Sleep is when our body goes into repair mode. It’s when our body repairs damaged cells and re-energises the body,” says Dr Russak. Secondly, drink lots of water – this helps transport all the essential nutrients through our bodies, so it’s imperative to avoid dehydration. Lastly, Dr Russak recommends staying away from any new, aggressive beauty treatments. Dr Russak adds. “I will always suggest a treatment that has immediate gratification, with no downtime, such as a light chemical peel, deep-cleansing facial or Dermal Fillers to instantly restore volume.”
