Experts reveal the neck treatments that help you turn back the clock

Where beauty and Anti-Ageing are concerned, trends come and go – and 2016 has been dubbed the year of the neck. There are now more treatments available to turn back the clock on the neck than ever before. Intrigued? Experts reveal all.

Did you know that sun damage is apparent much faster on your neck than on your face? Despite this, US-based Dermatologist Elizabeth Tanzi says “this sensitive area has commonly been one of the most neglected spots on the body in terms of sun protection and anti-ageing action”.

So what treatments are available for your neck and how do they work? Let’s find out.

  •  Don’t skimp on creams and serums

It’s common for women to start using Anti-Ageing creams and serums as early as their 20s, but according to NYC-based Dermatologist Paul Jarrod Frank, “very few think to take care of their necks before 40”. The antioxidants and hydration-boosting ingredients found in such products help to protect your neck from the early onset of ageing, giving you a more youthful appearance.

  • Slather on the sunscreen

We’re always saying you should apply SPF daily – but how many of you apply it to your face, forgetting about your neck? NYC-based Dermatologist Whitney Bowe stresses the importance of using sunscreen on your neck too: “Because we have less fat underlying the neck skin, it gets crepe-y and lax faster than the face”. She recommends opting for a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays and prevent depleting levels of collagen.

  • Reduce sun damage with lasers

While prevention is often touted as better than cure, sometimes the damage has already been done. If you suffer from pigmentation on your neck due to sun damage, laser treatment can help to reduce it, giving you a more even skin tone and restoring youth to your neck.

  • Banish neck lines with Microneedling

Microneedling (or Dermaroller treatment) uses tiny needles to pierce the skin. This helps to stimulate the production of collagen which has a smoothing effect on neck lines and wrinkles, erasing the years.

  • Tighten skin with Ultrasound Therapy

As you age, it’s normal for the skin around your jaw to soften and it may start to sag. Ultrasound Therapy can help to increase the production of collagen, tightening the area gradually within around six months.
