07 December 2012Treatments that enable people to permanently get rid of unwanted hair are becoming increasingly popular, it has been claimed. Suzanne Quinter, an adjunct instructor with the University of Cincinnati’s (UC) dermatology department and dermatologist with UC Health, explained the two ways of permanently removing hair are electrolysis and laser treatments. Many people will no doubt prefer the laser option, as electrolysis involves a fine needle-shaped electrode being inserted into each hair follicle. In comparison, laser treatments are virtually painless and use light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle before gently heating and destroying it. Dr Quinter explained these are the ideal solutions for those who do not want to spend time waxing or shaving on a regular basis. "I think people are continually trying to find ways to save time, and the time benefit to removing one more step in personal grooming is enticing to people,” she stated.
