Hand model spills her Anti-Ageing secrets
21 March 2016
When it comes to Anti-Ageing, many people focus on taking care of their face, neglecting to do the same for their hands. Experts advise implementing an Anti-Ageing regime for your hands too, as the delicate skin here can betray a person’s true age.
So what’s the best way to care for hands? Hand model Adele Uddo spills all. One of the most successful hand models in the world, Adele has worked on campaigns for Dior, Chanel, Balmain and Christian Louboutin and regularly stands in for celebrities such as Katy Perry, Penelope Cruz, Heidi Klum and Eva Mendes. Here are her top Anti-Ageing tips for hands.
- Moisturise with hand cream
“I’m a big believer that a little lotion goes a long way. Moisture makes hands look healthy and beautiful,” she said.
And if you’ve run out of hand cream, Adele suggests turning to some staple cupboard ingredients such as coconut or olive oil.
- Use essential oils
On days where she has a shoot, Adele steps up her hand care even more by spraying essential oils onto her hands. Using essential oils was one of ancient beauty Cleopatra’s secrets to youthful-looking hands. Adele’s favourites are frankincense, lavender and geranium.
- Watch what you eat
As well as applying creams and oils to her hands, Adele is a firm believer in taking care of her body from the inside-out. As diet can contribute to healthy skin and nails, Adele is careful to ensure she eats plenty of good fats and food rich in minerals and antioxidants, minimising her intake of processed foods and sugar.
- Reverse ageing with gloves
Wearing gloves helps Adele’s hands to stay hydrated. She said “as soon as my nails are exposed to the elements, they get drier and more brittle, and my skin looks ‘weathered’ as well.”
- Let your nails breathe
While Adele is a big fan of various nail varnish colours, she also stresses the importance of letting your nails breathe – removing her polish on her days off.
