Cream made from snail slime could be the latest beauty craze, as it has been claimed it can be used to treat acne. The mucus has been used in Korea and Africa for a while and now it is starting to make its way over to the US, the New Zealand Herald reports. As well as being used to treat acne, it is believed the snail slime can also be used to tackle wrinkles and reduce the appearance of pigmentation and scarring. Speaking to Fashionista, dermatologist Dr Macrene Alexiades-Armenakas said: The extract is renowned for its regenerative properties and facilitates the restoration of damaged tissue and replenishes moisture in skin. The qualities of the mucus were discovered accidentally when Chilean farmers noticed their skin healed quickly when they handled snails for the French market. Of course, there are other treatments for acne that are far more conventional that using snail slime. These include the Obagi Blue Skin Peel, Dermaroller - which is used for acne scarring and laser treatments.
