Surgeons working togetherAmerican talk show host Julie Chen has spoken for the first time about undergoing cosmetic surgery in a bid to help her career.Chen, co-host of CBS' The Talk, told the audience yesterday that she turned to surgery after being told her Asian appearance was holding her back in her career.As a 25-year-old local news reporter, she was told by her boss that she would never make it as a news anchor because of her looks. He claimed viewers would not be able to relate to her. It was after a casting agent also said that her appearance would hinder her career that Chen turned to surgery."I started meeting with agents for career advice, and this one big-time agent basically told me the same thing," she said."He had the biggest names in the business. And he told me the same thing. He said, 'I cannot represent you unless you getplastic surgeryto make your eyes look better.' He then whips out a list of plastic surgeons who have done this procedure."Chen, now 43, admits that following a procedure to remove excess skin from above her eyelids, her career did take off.She added: "I have to live with every decision that I've made, and it got me to where we are today. And I'm not going to look back."
