Koreans lead the way in per capita cosmetic surgery figures

South Korea is the world's largest market for cosmetic surgery procedures, according to newly-released industry statistics. Data suggests that per capita, more people in South Korea have undergone a procedure than in any other country in the world. A survey carried out in the country found that 20 per cent of women between the ages of 19 and 49, living in the capital city Seoul, had had cosmetic surgery. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery said 2010 data showed that in South Korea, 16 procedures were carried out for every 1,000 people. Greece took second place in the rankings with 14 procedures per 1,000 people, while Italy finished third. The survey suggests that Britain is the 21st largest market for cosmetic surgery, with just under four procedures carried out per 1,000 people. In terms of volume, cosmetic professionals in America carried out the most procedures more than 3.3m in 2010. There was roughly an even split between surgical and non-surgical work. When it comes to non-surgical cosmetic procedures, a report on the figures by The Economist said that laser hair removal and Botox treatments remain the firm favourites.
