Laser hair removal has been recommended to a woman with Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome (POS). The recommendation, made by Dr Sharmaine Mitchell, was given to a woman who wrote into the Jamaican Observer online complaining of irregular periods, acne and excessive hair on the face, chest and abdomen. In reply to the letter, Dr Mitchell wrote: The problem that you are experiencing with the irregular periods and the excessive hair growth on the face and the rest of the body is most likely due to a condition called polycystic ovarian disease. The excessive hair growth on the face may be controlled by shaving, using creams or by doing laser hair removal, she added. Dr Mitchell also recommended taking a low dose birth control pill containing the medication Cyproterone Acetat to help clear up the skin acne and control the growth of body and facial hair.
