Liposuction popularity on the rise
16 September 2009A study has suggested that liposuction is now the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure among British women. The Plastic Surgery Channel reports that 83 per cent of the women surveyed in the UK have expressed a desire to undergo the fat removal procedure, which involves the removal of excess fatty tissue to sculpt and define shape. These findings differ from the US, where a study conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons last year found liposuction to be the third most popular cosmetic treatment for women in 2008, behind breast enlargement and nose reshaping treatments. Eyelid surgery was the fourth most popular procedure among American women, followed by tummy tuck treatments. Liposuction offers a solution for women who are finding it hard to shift fat from certain areas of the body through traditional means of diet and exercise, and can be performed on most areas of the body including the abdomen, buttocks, hips and inner and outer thighs, and to remove double chins. The UK study also revealed the surprising insight that British men are now more likely than women to consider cosmetic surgery procedures, with 46.2 per cent of men expressing interest in cosmetic treatments compared to a lower 45.5 per cent of women. These findings indicate that men are now catching up with woman when it comes to appearance enhancement, seeking cosmetic solutions to retaining an attractive, youthful appearance as they age to enhance their career prospects and improve self esteem.
