Middle aged Korean men more conscious than ever about their looks
14 October 2014
The older we get, the more worried we become about looking younger; but while this belief is hugely prevalent among women, it seems even men – especially those in Korea - are becoming more aware about maintaining a youthful appearance.
According to research conducted by Samsung Card, men in their 40s and 50s have bumped up their spending habits on personal care products. Back in 2010, there were 108,263 credit card transactions on Skin Care procedures by men in the same age range – with the total of transactions increasing by 120 per cent in 2011, to 238,335.
This particular over-40s demographic now sees men enjoying luxury beauty items – indulging in their spending habits as they pay more attention to their looks.
Speaking about this change in spending behaviour, Hong Sung-tae at Hanyang University explained: “Middle-aged men nowadays are responsible for fewer children, so they don’t hesitate when it comes to spending on themselves.”
