Patients should not trivialise cosmetic surgery operations

Experts advise patients to view cosmetic surgery procedures in the same light as medical operations. Dr Kieren Bong, a cosmetic doctor at a plastic surgery clinic, has spoken out to ensure patient safety is paramount at all times, whether the procedure is being carried out for medical or cosmetic purposes. Of cosmetic procedures such as liposuction, breast reduction and face lifts, Dr Bong said: “Although they are getting safer, they are getting quicker and easier it perform, they are still not without risk of complications and side effects.”As part of his advice, Dr Bong said patients should carry out their own research on surgeons and clinics, to ensure that they know the one they pick is qualified and registered with the appropriate industry bodies. According to recent statistics, breast augmentation surgery was the most common procedure carried out last year, with more than 10,000 women opting to have breast implants.
