Shauna Mullin - Volleyball Athlete's Blog for The Harley Medical Group

The run-up to the Olympic Games this year has been really exciting for myself and my Beach Volleyball partner Zara Dampney. We’ve found out that we have qualified for the GB team which is hugely exciting and we’ve been training non-stop since. It’s not going to be easy to get on the podium this summer but there will never be a better chance to get an Olympic Medal than at London 2012! Being able to play in our home country, with the whole nation behind us and at such an iconic venue - the Horse’s Guard Parade - makes the whole experience that much more exciting. In addition to our training programme, I decided to have Laser Hair Removal with The Harley Medical Group, ahead of the Olympics. It’s a treatment I’ve always considered, but with the Games coming up, I decided to go ahead. We wear a sports bra and bikini bottoms to compete in as they’re perfect for playing on the sand and in the heat , so having hair-free skin is one less thing I need to worry about during competitions. From my first consultation, I felt completely at ease with the Nurses at The Harley Medical Group. They explained that as I have blonde hairs, treating them with Meladine solution to make them darker ahead of my laser hair removal treatments, would help - I’ve now got the Meladine solution so will continue to use it throughout my treatment to get the best possible results. So far this summer my partner Zara and I have returned from the Grand Slam in Rome, where we qualified after beating Greece, Canada and a top ranking German team – it was great preparation ahead of the games. We have also been to Moscow for second team qualifiers, where we narrowly lost to the Netherlands in the CEV Continental Cup quarter final. We’ve really enjoyed some downtime at home on returning from our trips - and we’re thrilled at the news that we have qualified and can’t wait to take part in this year’s games. Shauna
