The medical benefits of a Tummy Tuck
22 September 2015
The Tummy Tuck is quickly becoming one of the most popular Cosmetic Surgeries performed in the UK. A recent study conducted by us at The Harley Medical Group revealed it was in fact the most desired procedure among British women and now it’s also been proven to have significant health benefits too.
As we age, a number of factors can have an impact on the taught tummies of our youth. Pregnancy, fluctuations in weight and a natural loss of elasticity in the skin as we age can all leave loose, sagging skin around the stomach which no amount of diet and exercise can get rid of.
A Tummy Tuck removes this excess skin and adds definition back into the abdomen, but this isn’t the only benefit of the procedure according to a new study by Swiss researchers for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Their study found that having taken the step to improve the appearance of their stomach, patients were far more motivated to take care of their weight in the long term. After a Tummy Tuck, patients gained on average just one pound annually, compared to four pounds gained a year by individuals who hadn’t undergone the surgery.
