A new survey has revealed the truth about plastic surgery around the world and where different countries rank when it comes to the number and type of operations performed. The third annual Global Study of Aesthetic/Cosmetic Surgery Procedures Performed in 2011 revealed lipoplasty to be the most popular choice.This is when sound waves are used to liquefy excess fat beneath the surface of the skin before it is suctioned out. When it came to non-surgical treatments, Botox was found to be the most popular procedure, as it accounted for 39.1 per cent of non-surgical treatments around the world. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the US was found to be the country in which the most cosmetic procedures were performed, with 3,105,246 taking place in 2011. It also topped the list when it came to the number of lipoplasty, tummy tuck, eyelid and breast augmentation procedures that took place in the same year. While the second-highest number of cosmetic operations took place in Brazil, China took third spot with Japan and Mexico completing the top five.
