Things to consider before Cosmetic Surgery
1 October 2015
Deciding to undergo Cosmetic Surgery is a very personal decision: for some people it’s an anti-ageing procedure, for others Cosmetic Surgery is about addressing a life-long physical insecurity, while some are making the most of Non Surgical Treatments to help them look their best. Whatever your motivations, there are a few essential things to consider before opting for a procedure.
Be realistic about the results
Just as each patient is individual, the results of every procedure will vary from person to person; and so it’s important to take your personal situation into consideration when thinking about what can be achieved in a surgery. As one Surgeon explains, “Understanding what can be done given your personal situation is something you need to talk to your Surgeon about…if you walked in with Sarah Jessica Parker’s nose expecting to walk out with Natalie Portman’s and instead ended up with Anne Hathaway’s, you have to be all right with that.”
This can make before and after images problematic, as they’re only really relevant if the first picture resembles your body.
Be sure about your motivations
While Cosmetic Surgery often gives patients a fantastic confidence boost, it won’t cure deeper issues, the Surgeon continues, “Having low self-esteem as a result of a physical attribute you’re not happy with can affect all areas of your life. There’s nothing wrong with thinking you could be happier, as a result of being more confident, if you could put your best face forward. Remember though, surgery is not a cure for deeper issues such as depression or jealousy.”
Consider Non Surgical Treatments
Brilliant advances in non-invasive treatments mean many patients are finding – particularly the anti-ageing – solutions they’re looking for from Non Surgical Treatments.
The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery report they are seeing the biggest increase in Non Surgical Treatments; with Botox, Skin Peels, Laser Hair Removal and Microdermabrasion making up the top four, most popular treatments.
