Traditional liposuction preferred by surgeons

The majority of plastic surgeons in America prefer using traditional liposuction methods to other, newer techniques, recent research reveals. A survey carried out by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), in which ASAPS members were asked to give their opinion on suction-assisted lipoplasty (SAL), power-assisted liposuction (PAL) and ultrasound-assisted liposuction, showed that over half would choose to perform SAL. Of the cosmetic surgeons asked, 492 (51 per cent) chose SAL as their preferred method, followed by PAL and then UAL. Only five per cent of surgeons said that more recent techniques, including laser-assisted liposuction and non-invasive ultrasound methods, were effective treatments. Houston cosmetic surgeon Dr Leo Lapuerta said: “With safety and persistent excellent results, I tend to stick with the established and proven techniques available. However, it’s also essential to listen to the client and if they feel that a newer technique will yield their desired results, we’ll consider this during the consultations. It is important to keep options open.”
