When is the best time of year for skin laser treatments?
Although it may be sad to see the last dregs of summer disappear for another year, we are now entering the apt season of the laser treatment, according to one dermatologist. Dr Brandith Irwin, from Seattle, says it is very important that patients are careful with exposure to sun or light following laser treatments. Immediate exposure can re-damage the skin and sometimes reverse the results of treatment.“Most laser treatments require you to be out of the sun or very careful about the sun for a month or two after treatment," explained Dr Irwin. “If you live in a four season climate, the best times for treatments are fall, winter and early spring when the UVA is lowest. If you live in an always sunny climate, then pick the seasons when you will be outdoors the least.” This tip applies when considering IPL, Fraxel, Fraxel Dual, Laser Hair Removal, or a CO2 laser. Certain treatments, such as those that rely on sound waves, do not apply to this scenario – and will not be affected by exposure to light.
