An X Factor contestant has revealed that comments from judge Simon Cowell seriously affected her confidence when she appeared on the show in 2003.However, Katrina Lee, now 23, underwent cosmetic surgery and returned to the show to enjoy a successful audition this year. Miss Lee explained in an interview with The Sun that Simon's comments had hit her hard as an 18 year old. She further revealed that in the intervening years she has undergone facial laser surgery, liposuction and dental work. The Belfast-born contestant also hired a personal trainer to help her lose weight after struggling with an eating disorder after first appearing on the show. Miss Lee, who also dyed her blond hair a vibrant red for her appearance on the show, sang a cover of Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares 2 U at her Glasgow audition for the 2009 series of X Factor and enjoyed her chance to show the judges how far she'd come. She said: "I came face-to -face with Simon Cowell and told him that his comments had nearly wrecked my life. He told me, "That's not a nice thing I said". "He seemed really shocked how his comments had affected me. "Since then I've had laser treatment and liposuction and I've come back a new person." Simon - who is well known for his forthright opinions - is reported to have said that Miss Lee was now a good looking girl, and apologised for his earlier comments. According to The Daily Mail Miss Lee also said: "This year Cheryl Cole said my audition was fantastic and I'm really pleased I've come this far."
