Leeds blepharoplasty overview

The cosmetic procedure called blepharoplasty, which is sometimes referred to as eye bag removal, eyelid reshaping, or eyelid surgery, has the potential to rejuvenate the face and enhance the appearance of the eye region. Its primary objective is to correct hooded or drooping eyelids and eye bags. By eliminating loose and saggy skin, this technique can produce a more youthful and revitalised look, with only minor scarring
Blepharoplasty can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids, and it can help to correct drooping or sagging eyelids, reduce puffiness and bags under the eyes, and improve vision that may have been impaired by sagging upper eyelids.

Is eyelid surgery right for me?
In situations where a patient has an abundance of skin, under-eye bags, or sagging upper eyelids, blepharoplasty surgery is often the most efficient course of action. During your initial consultation, our nursing staff will assess your eligibility for eyelid surgery. This assessment will involve screening for underlying conditions such as diabetes, thyroid eye disease, and dry eyes, which could heighten your surgical risk.
The procedure for eyelid surgery in Leeds
Upper blepharoplasty can be carried out with local anesthesia and a mild sedative for some patients, allowing for a quicker recovery time than if general anesthesia is used. The surgeon will begin by making small incisions along the natural crease of the upper eyelid, approximately 1cm above the lash line. Then, the surgeon will delicately separate the skin from the underlying tissue, remove or reposition the fatty tissue, and tighten the muscles. Before closing the incision with stitches or surgical glue, the skin will be stretched to create a smooth appearance.
Lower blepharoplasty, or a combination of upper and lower eyelid surgery, almost always requires general anesthesia. The surgeon will make an incision along the lower lash line, remove any excess fat, commonly referred to as ""eye bags,"" and stretch the skin to create a smooth finish.
After the incision has been closed with stitches, any extra skin will be removed, leaving you with smoother and more youthful-looking skin around the eyes.
Leeds blepharoplasty recovery & aftercare
Recovery from blepharoplasty usually takes around one to two weeks, during which time you will experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort.
Your surgeon may provide you with pain medication and suggest using cold compresses to reduce swelling. You should also avoid activities that could increase blood flow to the eyes, such as bending over or lifting heavy objects. Your surgeon will give you specific aftercare instructions, which may include topical creams and keeping your head elevated while sleeping. It is important to attend all follow-up appointments with your surgeon to monitor your healing progress and ensure that there are no complications. You should also avoid wearing contact lenses or eye makeup for at least a week after surgery, and avoid strenuous exercise for several weeks. By following your surgeon's aftercare instructions, you can help to ensure a safe and speedy recovery from blepharoplasty.

We only work with consultants who are registered with the UK General Medical Council (GMC) and who have a wealth of surgical experience. Most of our Consultant Plastic Surgeons hold substantive posts within the NHS and all go through a comprehensive application process before practicing privileges are granted.
