Botox vs Fillers – which is right for you?
In the quest to remain youthful and prevent the onset of fine lines and wrinkles, two Non Surgical treatments have become increasingly popular: Dermal Fillers and Botox. But what’s the difference between these Anti-Ageing solutions, and how do you know which one is right for you?
Botox is injected into your facial muscles to stop them from contracting, allowing wrinkles and fine lines to fade and your skin to become smoother. It is a temporary Anti-Ageing solution and can be administered in varying amounts depending on the severity of the target area.
· When to use it
If your unwanted lines and wrinkles are the result of frowning, squinting or smiling then Botox is the ideal solution as it targets the muscles responsible for facial movement and expressions.
· Where to use it
The first signs of ageing are generally noticeable at the corners of your mouth, in-between your eyebrows and under your eyes. It’s best to use Botox to smooth expression lines, including crow’s feet and frown lines between the eyebrows.
· How long does Botox last and is it painful?
Generally, the results of Botox are visible for between three and six months. While slight bruising and swelling is normal, the treatment is virtually pain-free.
Dermal Fillers are used to add temporary volume to areas of the face that have started to sag with ageing. They contain hyaluronic acid which helps bind collagen and elastin together, giving your skin more elasticity, preventing further sagging and volume loss.
· When to use them
If you’ve got deep lines and wrinkles, or you’ve noticed your skin has started to lose volume, Dermal Fillers can restore youth and improve your skin’s overall appearance.
· Where to use them
As Dermal Fillers are used to restore volume, patients usually have this treatment in lips, cheeks and around the eyes, as well as along the jawline and in the chin to enhance facial symmetry.
· How long do Dermal Fillers last and is the treatment painful?
Depending on the area being treated, Dermal Fillers can last up to a year. Patients having Dermal Fillers in their lips enjoy results for up to three months, while those having Fillers in their skin can expect results to last from six months to one year. You may experience some swelling and bruising after treatment but it is described by patients as painless.
The most important thing to remember is to find a reputable and board-certified professional to carry out your Botox and Dermal Fillers treatments. Results from these Anti-Ageing solutions are temporary and subtle – they are not supposed to make you look dramatically different, rather you can enjoy a fresher, more rejuvenated appearance.
