Cosmetic procedures capable of reducing the amount of fatty tissue around a man's chest are relatively simple and can have a major impact on a patient's life. That's according to Dr Brian Hass, a cosmetic surgeon in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, who is also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He said a number of things can lead to the condition known as gynecomastia. It can be hereditary in some cases, caused by a person gaining or losing weight, or hormonal changes. In some adults, the type of medication they are taking can be to blame. It is estimated that between 40 and 60 per cent of men have what are often referred to as 'man boobs' or 'moobs', and it is this fatty tissue that can lead to low self-confidence and embarrassment about wearing tight t-shirts in public. Dr Hass said: "The good news is that breast-reduction procedures for men are relatively simple with little downtime. "Following surgery, our male patients tell us they feel less self-conscious in their fitted shirts and are not embarrassed to go shirtless on the beach, gym or boat."
