Brits don’t want to look younger, they want to look good for their age

While we might assume that we all feel we look older than we should, new research has shown that actually 9/10 Brits believe they look their age or younger and simply want to improve their skin, not change it. In light of this, more patients are undergoing subtle laser and skin treatments, also known as ‘tweakments’, to improve their natural appearance in comparison to wanting to look completely different.

When adults reach the age of 25, the skin loses its elasticity and we can lose up to 1.5 per cent of our collagen levels, which is when wrinkles and lines start to appear, but lifestyle factors and habits can also contribute to ant-ageing.

Nurse Bernadette Harte, Non-Surgical Training Manager at The Harley Medical Group said:

“Women who visit our clinics want subtle enhancements that will leave them looking great, without looking drastically different to the naked eye.”

She added: “The vast majority of women I speak to don’t want to turn back the years and erase all wrinkles, but rather target a few stubborn areas that they’ve struggled to tackle with a healthy diet and a good skin care regime.”

According to Nurse Bernadette, the three most popular treatments women opt for to achieve more natural results are Dermaroller™, Line and Wrinkle Reduction and Dermal Fillers.

Dermaroller™ uses fine needles to stimulate collagen and elastin which encourages the skin to regenerate and repair itself in a natural and safe way. It makes skin smoother, plumper, brighter and healthier. This treatment can be used to repair acne scars, improve the appearance of facial lines, and sun damage, and it can also be used to improve the appearance of ageing hands.

Line and Wrinkle Reduction is used to correct problem wrinkle areas on the face, such as crow’s feet and frown and forehead lines. The treatment relaxes facial muscles and creates a slight lifting of the skin to refine wrinkles and lines. Extensive Line and Wrinkle Treatment is also popular and contributes to rejuvenating lipstick lines, jowls and neck bands.

Dermal Fillers add volume to the face and help reduce the appearance of lines by filling them out. Fillers also enhance the natural contours of the face, creating a younger, but natural look. Dermal Fillers can also be used to create plumper cheeks, fuller lips and contour the bridge of the nose.

Those who undergo the treatments notice a positive difference in their psychological wellbeing as well as their appearance.
