Chloë Sevigny on ageing after 40

Actress Chloë Sevigny is instantly recognised by her trademark bold red lipstick. At 41 years old, she doesn’t look as though she’s ever had to worry about the effects of ageing. Now, Chloë has spoken out about what it’s like to age in Hollywood.

The actress is often credited for her youthful looks, to which she attributes not having had children.

She explained: “I think the baby wear and tear and stress on your body is part of the reason why people say, ‘why do you still look so young?’ I really think that that unfortunately ages women, especially when they have children in their 30s, not their 20s. So I think, first and foremost, it’s that and genetics.”

It’s not all down to good genes though; Chloë works hard to maintain a strict skincare regime, involving plenty of moisturising and water – and little caffeine.

Despite her youthful looks, she revealed that the age of 40 was a turning point for her, leading to her developing the same ageing insecurities as the rest of us.

She said: “Once I hit 40, I feel like things are starting to happen now that aren’t exciting and I’m starting to get a little scared. I mean, what do you do? Do you let it happen? Or do you start the preventive measures? It’s kind of terrifying.”

One way the star hopes to delay the ageing process is by sleeping on her back at night to prevent the development of fine lines and wrinkles on her décolletage, neck and face.

When asked for advice about ageing, Chloë answered with one word – confidence.

“It’s a big mental thing. I just got back from Cannes and there is so much emphasis on your looks and fashion, and all that. I’m trying to have a healthy remove, and I’m trying not to beat myself up,” she said.
