Find out why hyaluronic acid is so good for your skin

When it comes to skincare, there are a few tried-and-tested ingredients recommended by the experts – and hyaluronic acid is one of them. Here’s how it can boost the appearance of your skin.

For skin to keep looking youthful, it needs to retain moisture and high levels of water (which keep it plump and glowing). The beauty of hyaluronic acid is that it enables your skin cells to hold on to water, making skin plump and in doing so, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles in the process.

So what exactly is hyaluronic acid? This sugar occurs naturally in the connective tissue within our bodies, and 50 per cent of it is found in our skin. Just one molecule of the substance can retain water up to 1,000 times its own weight – so you can see why it’s a major player when it comes to skincare.

You may be thinking, if our bodies contain so much of the substance, why is it so important to invest in skincare products containing hyaluronic acid. This moisturising ingredient gives a much-needed boost of hydration during the cold winter months, making it ideal for restoring parched, dry skin to its peak.

Hyaluronic acid is suitable for all skin types and is a great temporary solution for getting rid of unwanted fine lines and wrinkles and delaying the ageing process.

Experts recommend looking for skincare products such as serums or moisturiser with high concentrations of hyaluronic acid for optimum skin-boosting effects.
