Seven tips for flawless looking skin

Wearing makeup everyday can play havoc with your skin – and if your Skin Care regime isn’t up to the job, you may find you’re more prone to blackheads and spots.

Keep your skin looking flawless by following these seven tips:

  • Clean your brushes

As well as keeping your skin squeaky clean, it’s important to clean your makeup brushes regularly. Every time you use your makeup brush, some of the bacteria from your face can get caught up in it. Not washing your brush will lead to a build-up of oil on your skin, causing unwanted blemishes and irritation.

  • Remove makeup before bed

You may be feeling sleepy but you should always make time to thoroughly wash off your makeup before you go to bed. If you regularly fall asleep fully made up, you risk damaging your skin – and the last thing you want is for your complexion to look dull and aged. Invest in a good cleanser and scrub off your makeup for healthy looking skin.

  • Wash your hands

It’s really easy to transfer bacteria from your hands to your face. For that reason, it’s important to make sure your hands are always clean. This goes for your mobile phone too. A study by a Northern Ireland hospital found: “Nearly all mobile phones showed evidence of bacterial growth and 15% of phones were growing bacteria known to cause infection.”

  • Go bare-faced

We’re not suggesting you go makeup free everyday but aim to leave the house bare-faced at least once a week to give your skin a break and allow your pores to breathe. You should also pay attention to your Skin Care products – avoid overuse of anything too harsh as it may lead to irritation.

  • Get some shut eye

It’s not always easy to get a full eight hours’ sleep a night but it’s vital to get as much shut eye as possible. When we rest, our skin repairs itself. Not sleeping enough can result in loss of elasticity and natural radiance. It is recommended to sleep on your back to prevent your skin coming into contact with bacteria lurking on your pillow. This can also help prevent early ageing too as you won’t be scrunching your face against your pillow.

  • Apply sunscreen regularly

Sunscreen is a good all-round product for skin, helping to prevent against ageing as well as keeping your skin suitable hydrated. You can also make sure you’re topping up your SPF by investing in SPF-containing makeup and moisturisers.

  • Drink lots of water

Staying hydrated is essential for healthy-looking skin. Eating lots of fruit and vegetables, drinking plenty of water and moisturising regularly will keep your skin soft, smooth and supple.
