In the UK the average size of women’s natural breasts are getting bigger, increasing from a B-cup to a DD. Over the last 100 years it’s thought that the average size of women’s breasts in the UK has grown by approximately 6.3cm and because of this, British women now have some of the biggest breasts in the world.
But why do our breasts keep getting bigger? It could be due to a number of reasons, the first being that our diet has changed significantly over the years. Women now have better diets than ever before, providing our body with more nutrients and good fats, so we’re growing more, getting taller and having broader shoulders. Our breasts are made up of fatty tissues – and the more fat we have in our bodies – the larger our breasts become.
The contraceptive pill also has a part to play in our growing breasts with so many women now using it as a form of contraception and around 70 per cent of women using it at some point in their life. The contraceptive pill is full of oestrogen which stimulates the milk ducts in our breasts and results in breast growth.
Because the size of women’s breasts in Britain continues to grow, it has resulted in an increase in Breast Reduction surgery, with women getting nearly twice as many since 2008.
