Cosmetic Surgery Guide
It is important that your decision to have a Cosmetic Surgery procedure is considered carefully.
There are many points that should be considered before deciding to have any type of Cosmetic Treatment or Surgery.
The Harley Medical Group has the following advice when choosing a Cosmetic Surgery Provider:
Your Cosmetic Surgery consultation
Make sure that you have a consultation with either a Registered Nurse, trained in Cosmetic Surgery counselling or with the Plastic Surgeon who will be performing your operation.
Choosing your Plastic Surgeon
It can be a daunting prospect choosing a Plastic Surgeon from the hundreds that operate nationwide so it is important to do your research before you book your procedure. Your operating Surgeon should be trained and registered with the GMC. It is best to choose a full-time Surgeon rather than one who does mainly reconstructive surgery with just a little cosmetic surgery on the side. Every Surgeon has to keep a log book of their entire operating history and ask to see this and have the Surgeon explain it to you.
Choosing a Clinic:
Choose a clinic that is registered with, and regularly inspected by the Care Quality Commission, and ask to see their HCC Registration Certificate. You may wish to download our guide Choosing a Cosmetic Surgery Provider
Advertisements: Don't respond to any advertisement or website that doesn't have the HCC logo on it.
Your Aftercare: Make sure you've received all your pre and post operating instructions in writing before you have your operation. Check that your clinic provides you with a 24 hour number for your use after surgery.
Complaint Policy: Do familiarise yourself with the clinic's complaints policy; this should be on public display in their waiting room.
Re-do Policy: Ask about the clinic's policy should it become necessary for your operation to be re-done.
Finally: ask, ask, ask.... for an explanation of anything you do not understand.
