As the sun comes out and the weather heats up, the realisation of summer dressing sets in and all of a sudden, you realise your muscle definition has disappeared. A nutritious diet and increased exercise are vital for getting in shape, rebuilding your self-confidence, and supporting your mental well-being. However, sometimes getting your dream body can be a slow process, and you might find specific areas of fat are more stubborn than others. To help shape their bodies and achieve a more slender, defined physique, many people opt to get their summer body with Vaser Liposuction.
Dr Leonardo Fasano, the expert at The Harley Medical Group, reveals more about how to get your summer body with vaser liposuction.
Vaser Liposuction is a surgical body contouring procedure that uses state-of-the-art ultrasound technology to precisely target and removes areas of unwanted fat - decreasing a significant amount of fat in one treatment.
Vaser Liposuction removes fat and improves the quality of your skin and muscle definition. The procedure produces immediate results; swelling and other temporary side effects are expected and only last a few weeks. Dr Fasano always recommends taking a week off work to give time for the body to heal after treatment. Your physician will also instruct you to wear compression garments for 4-8 weeks to teach the skin to heal, decrease swelling and speed up the recovery time.
For most, the treatment targets areas of particularly stubborn fat to create a more defined look - the top treatment areas include the abdomen, inner thighs, arms and the flanks - often referred to as ‘love handles.'
Vaser Liposuction isn’t just used to decrease fat areas but also to enhance the patient’s skin quality to a small degree. It achieves this by melting fat and stimulating the skin to produce more collagen and structural proteins, creating a mild skin-tightening effect. This improvement can be enhanced by following aftercare procedures, such as regular lymphatic drainage massages, radiofrequency treatments, and micro-needling stretch marks, often used as an add-on to Vaser Liposuction.
The most popular reason to undergo body contouring for both men and women is to look and feel great. Winter is the perfect time to get your summer body with vaser liposuction ready for the next time you unpack your bikini or shorts on holiday.
For women, the most common areas are the stomach and flanks; body contouring in these areas can help smooth the tummy and create the desired hourglass figure. In addition, the inner thighs are a popular focus area, as well as the chin and lower face, to create a more defined jawline.
Whereas the chest is a key focus area for men, who often feel self-conscious about natural body changes, which usually appear after puberty. At this age, the fat and glandular tissue of the chest may start increasing in size. When this increase is excessive also known as gynecomastia. The stomach and love handles are another popular body contouring area, aiming to reduce fat and enhance muscle definition.
This procedure requires a short period of downtime (usually seven days) depending on how many areas are treated. I’d always recommend taking a week off work to give time for the body to heal after treatment.
On top of this, wearing compression garments and a binder are required for four weeks full-time (24 hours) and four weeks part-time (12 hours a day), as this will teach the skin where to heal while decreasing the swelling and speeding up the recovery time. The compression garment is a bit like hard Spanx and worn underneath your clothes, so you can still carry on with daily life as usual. The binder and the foams are similar to a corset and offer additional support for the torso area.
To promote the healing process initially, I’d recommend avoiding physical activity for 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure – don’t do anything that makes you break a sweat or increase your heart rate excessively. It’s also essential to keep your body adequately nourished; I wouldn’t advise following a strict diet during recovery.
In the longer term, you don’t need to be a gym addict or go on an extreme diet to maintain the results. However, once you’re back doing more physical activity, taking care of your body is essential. The changes will be permanent if you keep a healthy lifestyle.
In most cases, there are always exceptions; patients usually start considering Vaser Liposuction of the abdomen in their mid-late twenties. After a few years of ‘adult life, people tend to notice that regardless of healthy lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, they cannot shift excess fat on their abdomen.
The natural ageing process and reduced metabolism mean that these stubborn pockets of fat become worse and more difficult to shift. This area is equally problematic among both men and women. For the abdomen, the end results will depend on how well preserved the skin quality is and can vary from a flattened stomach to an intricately sculpted and defined look.
Liposuction for love handles is also an excellent treatment for both men and women as there are no exercises that work in this area specifically, which would enable you to burn the excess fat deposits. Hips and flanks are often treated together and, as a result, produce a more defined hourglass and body shape.
The inner thighs are an area of concern as they make people feel more self-conscious.
Vaser Liposuction to the inner thigh is often not just about fat reduction and definition but also addressing more functional issues. Treating the inner thighs will reduce friction and general irritation when walking or exercising. For many, the improvement is a life changer, especially when it comes to summer when walking and sweating can lead to significant and painful inflammation.
Arms are one of the most visible parts of the body, which is why Vaser Liposuction on the arms is particularly popular, as it helps to reduce the appearance of loose, aged skin and remove any excess fat. When treating the arms, the aim is to slim the profile to enable people to feel more confident when wearing sleeveless tops. Furthermore, the procedure is often combined with a skin tightening treatment to give an overall thinner and more youthful appearance.
Like most surgical procedures, there are several dos and dont's to follow after Vaser Liposuction. Firstly, its recommended to avoid physical activity for 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure. It is also essential to keep your body properly nourished, so it is advised not to go on a strict diet during recovery.
To keep your body in shape in the long term, you do not need to be a gym addict or follow an extreme diet. However, once you can do more physical activity, taking care of your body is essential. The results can be long-lasting if you maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet.
