WHAT Promax Lipo DOES*

ProMax Lipo uses ultrasound waves to selectively target fat cells without affecting neighbouring tissue. The fat cells become more permeable after treatment which allows transport of triglycerides (fat) out of the cell. How non surgical liposuction works

Our revolutionary non-surgical technologies deliver unrivaled treatments for body shaping and fat reduction, targeting three key areas: cellulite reduction, inch loss, and skin tightening.

Our two step non-invasive liposuction treatment  combines ultrasonic cavitation, radio frequencies and, where necessary for optimum results, vacuum technologies to treat stubborn areas of fat on the body and face

 

Step one: Ultrasonic Cavitation for the Body*** 

For step one your practitioner will perform ultrasonic cavitation to treat areas of the body affected by fat and cellulite. Cavitation is defined as being the formation of an empty space within a  solid object - for example the creation of bubbles in liquid. Your practitioner will start by applying an ultrasound gel on the area to be treated. They will then apply a light pressure on the handset; by performing a series of sweeping motions, or a combination of sweeping motions with static periods, areas of stubborn fat and reduce cellulite will be treated.  

The ultrasonic cavitation handset works by employing high-frequency sound waves to penetrate the fat layer disrupt the fat cell walls. The sound waves cause a harmless chemical reaction which creates micro bubbles (the cavitation process) to form in the interstitial fluid - the extracellular fluid that fills the spaces between most of the cells of the body. As these bubbles collapse they trigger a temporary change in the cell membrane allowing the lipids (fat cells) to "leak" their contents into the interstitial fluid simultaneously turning into lymph. The 'loose fat' lymph is then drained, via the lymphatic system, into the bloodstream to be processed by the liver and and eliminated with sweat, urine and faeces.

To ensure you get the best results from the ultrasonic cavitation process we recommend exercising as soon as possible after your treatment and drinking plenty of water to fully flush out your system.  

 

STEP TWO: RADIO FREQUENCY & Vacuum

The process for step two is dependent on your requirements and the area treated. For example when treating the body use multi-polar radio frequency, whereas on the face we use bi-polar radio frequency. Additionally depending on the size and location of the treatment area, in addition to your requirements, a vacuum function may be used for optimum results. 

Step two: MULTI-POLAR RADIO FREQUENCY & vacuum FOR THE BODY

For step two your practitioner will perform multi-polar radio frequency and vacuum massage, depending on the area, to tighten skin and reduce cellulite. Multi-polar radio frequencies are electro-magnetic wave frequencies which are combined, through multiple electrodes, or “poles” to target the top and deep layers of the skin. Your practitioner will start by applying a radio frequency lotion on the area treated. They will then, through continuous slow movements, gradually heating the treatment area - some clients find this process mildly uncomfortable; please don't hesitate to speak with your practitioner if you find this to be the case. If a vacuum treatment is also required this will be performed simultaneously with the radio frequency process.  

The radio frequency and vacuum handset has two functions; the primary function is to emit radio frequency waves to tighten the skin. Radio waves are created when an electric field interacts with a magnetic field, causing vibrations that can travel through a vacuum. With radio frequency treatments highly controlled waves of energy create heat in the deep dermal and subcutaneous layers of the skin. This heating process aids circulation, in turn increasing fat cell metabolism to reduce the appearance of cellulite and improve collagen firmness. In addition, when exposed to radio frequency waves the skin contracts and vibrates, causing pores to close and to become smaller and the skin to tighten. If the radio frequency skin tightening treatment is kept at a regular interval, this desired effect can be maintained over time. The secondary, and still very important, function is to generate a vacuum massage, which assists the bodies’ lymphatic drainage system, which release lipids during cavitation and removes toxins from the body.

 

STEP TWO: BI-POLAR RADIO FREQUENCY LIPOSUCTION FOR THE FACE

For step two your practitioner will perform bi-polar radio frequency to lift skin on the face and neck and around the eyes. Depending on the area a vacuum massage may also be performed, avoiding areas that may cause any discomfort. While some non surgical liposuction can be performed around teh chin area, this treatment tends to be used for skin tightening, rather than fat reduction. Your practitioner will start by applying a radio frequency lotion on the area treated. They will then, through continuous slow movements, gradually heating the treatment area - some clients find this process mildly uncomfortable; please don't hesitate to speak with your practitioner if you find this to be the case. If a vacuum treatment is also required this will be performed simultaneously with the radio frequency process.  

The small  radio frequency and vacuum facial handset for facial skin tightening treatments use two electrodes which target the deep dermal and subcutaneous layers of the skin. The waves generated by the electrodes create a thermal energy which heats the deep facial tissues which revitalises circulation, provides long-term collagen stimulation and tightens pores. Skin is tightened instantly, and lines around the eyes, jawline and neck are reduced. If vacuum massage is performed in tandem it  assists in elimination of toxins resulting in a brighter radiant complexion.

 

What to expect following your Fat Reduction treatment 

You may experience some mild heat, swelling and redness on the skin lasting normally only a few hours; your practitioner may apply a soothing gel to cool where required.

To get the most out of your treatment we require that you increase your water intake before and after the treatment, therefore you may notice slightly more lavatory visits.

Exercise is an essential element to obtain best results, therefore you will be expected to exercise within 72 hours of treatment.

Aftercare

Fat Reduction Aftercare

Non invasive liposuction is not a weight loss tool but should be used to treat stubborn pockets of fat that healthy eating and exercise combined have not been able to address*.

Before treatment Advice

The treatment is non-invasive so does not require much preparation but we do have some pre treatment recommendations:

  • Avoid the sun for 2-3 days before and after the treatment and ensure that your skin is not dry or red and avoid fake tan, tanning creams within 10 days minimum of the treatment. Make-up should be removed for facial treatments.
  • It is recommended to drink 1 litre of water during the few hours preceding the treatment. 
  • Wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing.
  • Do not apply any creams/oils on the day of treatment or any sun tanning lotions to the area during the treatment course. 
  • Don't eat a heavy meal (carbohydrate or fat rich) less than two hours prior to your treatment
  • Don't cut the calories either! Eat sensibly and avoid restricting your calorie intake
  • Keep well hydrated to support lymphatic drainage
  • Avoid caffeine or fizzy drinks as these can have a bloating effect

Essentially think about how you would prepare for a gym session, the preparation for your treatment is much the same. 


After Treatment Advice

As a safe and painless treatment, ProMax Lipo has no down-time which means you can return to your normal activities immediately, however for optimum results we do have some post treatment recommendations:

  • The treated area may be red in colour and this may last for a few hours. It may also feel warm to touch during this time. To assist in reducing any redness, the application of aloe vera gel or Dermaquest Delicate Soothing Serum can calm the skin where required. Avoid excessive heat until any redness resolves.
  • It is advisable to drink plenty of water and for 4 days after treatment. This will encourage the removal of released fat.
  • There are many ways for triglycerides (fat cells) to be removed from the body after treatment. One is through the urinary system and so you may notice that your urine is darker post treatment.
  • Exercise within 72 hours of each treatment - for optimum results exercise as soon as possible following treatment. Best results are seen in combination with a balanced healthy diet and regular exercise. 
  • Occasionally a rash can occur after Ultrasound Cavitation treatment. This should subside within a few days, however if it lasts longer than a week, contact the clinic.
  • Blistering is very unusual, but if it does occur, contact the clinic and keep the area clean and dry. Do not use any lotions or creams on open skin as this may increase the risk of infection. DO NOT pick grazes or blisters – as this may increase the chance of a scar occurring. Once the skin has healed, a high protection sunscreen should be used daily for 12 months to prevent pigmentation changes to the skin.
  • Bruising may occasionally occur after treatment with the vacuum suction, especially around delicate areas. This should resolve with no long-term effects. We recommend Auriderm XO cream to reduce the bruising if unsightly, and to avoid contributing causes such as alcohol. 
  • For facial or exposed treatment areas, a high protection sunscreen should be used after treatments, and sun exposure should be avoided for 1 week post-treatment.
  • For facial treatments; make-up can be applied after several hours.
  • After treatment, contraction of your collagen fibres improve the skin’s elasticity and so your skin will appear firmer. This can be temporary as the production of new collagen takes time, and best results are seen after your course of treatments (continuing for 3 to 6 months after the end of your course).
  • We advise monthly maintenance treatments to help maintain results following an initial course.

Maintenance

Laser lipo does not alter your body's genetics by removing fat cells as surgical Liposuction will. In order to maintain the results achieved we recommend a healthy lifestyle of exercise and balanced diet is maintained. However we understand that there are times in our lives when a healthy lifestyle gets put on hold, holidays for example, so maintenance options are available.

Ensuring Long Term Results

Results from non surgical fat reduction will be long term provided you incorporate regular exercise and follow a healthy eating plan.*  

Here are some top tips to follow:

Aim to include at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise daily – this can include walking, cycling, swimming, dancing, running or a gym class.

Keep the body hydrated – often we mistake thirst for hunger. Before you reach for a snack have a drink.  Ideally, choose filtered water and either drink it plain or in broths and herbal teas. Aim for eight glasses of such liquid a day. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables, soups and smoothies will also contribute to your fluid intake.

Rather than worrying too much about weighing every food, focus on how you fill your plate – we suggest the following:

  • Half of your plate should be low-starch colourful vegetables.
  • A quarter of your plate should include protein-rich foods, such as fish, seafood, lean meat, eggs, nuts, low-fat dairy, tofu or tempeh or beans / pulses
  • On the remaining quarter, you have the option of adding one portion of cooked starchy vegetables or whole grains. If you have more than a stone to lose replace the grains with additional vegetables.

Reduce your alcohol intake. Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours after each treatment and try to cut down consumption generally. Alcohol contains no nutritional value and is high in calories. If you do drink alcohol try to abstain for at least three days a week and, on the days that you do drink, stick to two units a day for women and three for men.

Include protein at each meal – this helps support lean muscle mass and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

If you are looking to lose additional weight limit starchy foods to one portion, once or twice a day. The best types of starchy foods to eat are beans and pulses, root vegetables such as celeriac, carrots, turnips, swede (rutabaga), beetroot and squash, including butternut and pumpkin and sweet potato. If you wish you can include a little wholegrain rice, quinoa or pasta but watch portion sizes. For grains a portion is 1 slice wholemeal bread, 2 oat cakes, or 1–2 tbsp. cooked brown rice. For starchy vegetables: 1⁄2 sweet potato, 2 small new potatoes, or 1 cup (250ml/8fl oz.) butternut squash or pumpkin

Avoid white refined carbs such as white rice, pasta, bread, processed breakfast cereals, cakes and biscuits.

Include healthy fats. It’s actually healthier to change the types of fat you eat rather than to severely restrict the overall level of fat in your diet. The best fats to include are omega 3 fatty acids found in oily fish (mackerel, sardines, salmon, trout), walnuts, flaxseed, chia seeds and green leafy vegetables and monounsaturated fats found in avocado, olives and certain nuts and seeds. These have powerful anti-inflammatory properties and can help stabilize blood sugar levels and keep you feeling fuller for longer. Include a little saturated fat such as butter or coconut oil particularly for cooking as these fats are more heat stable.  Try to include oily fish 2-3 times a week.

Keep processed foods to a minimum. Avoid ready meals, take- aways, microwave meals, foods containing artificial preservatives and chemicals, trans-fats and foods containing high fructose corn syrups.

Instead of sugar opt for healthier options such as stevia or xylitol and use as little as possible.

Watch your caffeine intake. Caffeine, found in tea, coffee, chocolate, ‘energy drinks’ and colas, is a potent stimulant. It causes your stress hormones to surge, which disrupts your blood sugar levels and can lead to weight gain. Restrict coffee and tea to 1-2 cups daily or switch to decaffeinated versions.


Here are some meal options to get you started.  

Breakfast Options

  • Tropical Green Protein Shake – blend together handful of spinach leaves, ½ mango chopped, a scoop of vanilla protein powder with coconut water or water
  • 2 egg omelette with grilled mushrooms and tomatoes
  • 2 poached eggs with wilted spinach and steamed asparagus
  • Soaked Muesli – Place 3tbsp muesli in a bowl and soak overnight in the fridge in water or almond milk. Add a little cinnamon and top in the morning with 1 chopped apple.
  • Bowl of berries with 150g Greek yogurt or coconut yogurt and 1tbsp mixed seeds
  • Overnight Chia Pudding. The night before soak 2tbsp chia seeds in 300ml almond milk or coconut milk.  In the morning blend in 1 cup mixed berries to serve
  • 1 Poached egg, ¼ avocado sliced and 30g smoked salmon with 2 plain oat cakes

 

Lunch Options

  • Bean and vegetable soup with large mixed salad
  • Poached salmon fillet with mixed salad and lemon juice / olive oil dressing
  • Kale and Chicken Salad. Place 100g kale in a bowl and sprinkle with salt and lemon juice. Massage the kale to wilt. Top with ½ chopped avocado, 1 cooked chicken breast and serve with diced tomato, red pepper and cucumber.
  • 2 egg herb Frittata / omelette with steamed vegetables or salad
  • Fillet of hot smoked mackerel with mixed salad
  • Bean and Tuna Salad. Toss together ½ can tuna with ½ can mixed beans and serve with large mixed salad plus ½ avocado diced. Drizzle with lemon juice to taste.
  • Quinoa salad with chickpeas. Cook 30g quinoa until tender. Toss in a bowl with diced cucumber, tomato, red pepper, chopped fresh herbs, 150g cooked chickpeas and 30g crumbled goats cheese.

 

Dinner Options

  • Roasted root vegetables with chicken breast
  • Courgette pesto noodles with chicken. Spiralise or use a potato peeler to cut a courgette into long noodles. Toss into a little pesto with 1 cooked chicken breast chopped and top with diced tomato, red pepper and black olives.
  • Turkey Chilli Cook together 100g lean turkey mince with ½ can kidney beans, ½ can chopped tomatoes and a dash of chilli powder. Serve with steamed vegetables.
  • Beef Stir fry. Fry 120g strips of lean steak in a pan with a bag of stir fry vegetables. Flavour with garlic, ginger and tamari soy sauce.
  • Grilled salmon. Grill a salmon fillet drizzled with lemon juice until cooked. Serve with large mixed salad and steamed greens
  • Chicken Curry. Sauté 1 chicken breast cut into cubes in a pan with 2tsp curry paste until golden. Add 200ml coconut milk, chopped sweet potato, red pepper and green beans and sauté until cooked through. Serve with 30g cooked brown rice and salad. 
  • Roasted Tofu with vegetables. Toss cubed firm tofu (150g) in olive oil and roast in the oven with selection of vegetables (e.g. red pepper, aubergine, red onion, courgette, ½ sweet potato). Serve with salad

 

Optional Snack – only snack if really hungry

  • 2tbsp mixed seeds
  • 2 oat cakes spread with nut butter
  • Handful of carrot sticks with 2tbsp cottage cheese
  • Protein shake
  • Small pot of natural yogurt with handful of berries
  • Small bag of kale crisps
  • Celery sticks and 2tbsp hummus

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long will it take?

Non surgical liposuction treatment time will depend on the area size being treated, your nurse wil be able to advise you at your free, no obligation consultation. We would request you allow approximately an hour from start to finish.  

At The Harley Medical Group we recommend a course of eight treatments, for optimum results you would have two treatments a week for four weeks. 

For further treatments to new areas we recommend a two week break.

How many laser liposuction treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required will vary, due to many factors including skin condition, hormone status, certain medications, lifestyle and treatment compliance.

A course of treatments is recommended to achieve optimum results, followed by maintenance treatments as necessary. Treatments cannot be performed on consecutive days.

  • Inch loss/body shaping: average 6-12 treatments, x2 treatments a week for the 1st 6 treatments. Then weekly.
  • Cellulite reduction: average 4-8 treatments, x1 per week
  • Skin tightening: average 6-8 treatments, every 2-4 weeks apart.

I have just had a baby, can I be treated?

It is possible to treat a lady 6 weeks postpartum for non invasive lipo, there are no contraindications. However, at The Harley Medical Group we will not treat you if you are breastfeeding as your fat will be in 'storage mode' for the baby and you will not see the best results possible. 

Does it matter if I have tattoos or body piercing?

Yes this is a consideration for treatment. 

The low-level laser technology (LLLT) cannot be used over tattoos, if you have a tattoo we will not treat this area. If you have a small tattoo we can treat around the area. If you are thinking of getting a tattoo in the treatment area you may want to consider postponing until you have undertaken the full course, approximately four weeks. 

Areas with body piercings can be treated but the jewellery must be removed wherever possible, if this is not possible we will cover the piercing with surgical tape and avoid the area during your treatment. 

Can laser lipo be used for male chest reduction?

Gynaecomastia is an increasing issue for men of all ages, degrees of fitness and backgrounds; we are often asked about treatments to help with male breasts, or 'moobs'.

Will I see dramatic results?

This is a difficult question to answer as it's relative to your expectations. Most of our clients start to notice results after their second or third treatment*.

There are also several things to consider*:

  • Laser Lipolysis should not be undertaken as a weight-loss tool but should be to remove stubborn pockets of fat as part of a healthy lifestyle. We would not expect to drop multiple dress sizes as this is not a healthy or responsible approach to weight loss. 
  • It is a course which will reduce fat in the area treated a bit at a time it can feel like the treatment is not as effective as you would like, but when measurements are taken before and after a significant decrease in mass has been recorded in all patients. 
  • The treatment is part of a healthy balanced lifestyle, you should maintain a steady calorie intake both before and after the treatment. Increased calories or reduction in exercise during the treatment may result in no noticable fat reduction, this is because the non surgical liposuction is counteracting the change in your lifestyle to maintain a balance.

What is the difference between surgical and non surgical liposuction?

First off we should say that technically "Liposuction" refers to a surgical procedure, "Non Surgical Liposuction" is really a fat reduction treatment, rather than strictly being a form of Liposuction.

There are numerous differences between surgical and non surgical liposuction, which procedure is right depends on patient requirements and expectations. Your nurse will talk you through all your options at your free consultation but the following are some of the points of difference:

Non Surgical Fat Reduction (Liposuction)*

  • Does not remove but normalises fat cells, fat cell empties, the cell doesnt need to grow again as not removed or damaged, it will simply refill if weight is put back on.
  • Depending on the area treated can be performed in under an hour and requires no anaesthetic
  • Non invasive procedure 
  • No downtime, following your treatment you can return to your normal daily activities
  • Can treat all areas of the body - except female breasts
  • The treatment can also tighten skin, so it can be performed on all skin elasticity types

Is laser lipo safe?

Our non surgical liposuction is a clinically proven treatment for fat reduction. It requires no incisions to be made into the skin removing risk of wound infection. As it is a non invasive liposuction it removes risk to internal organs which is a possibility with a surgical procedure, moreover as cells are not destroyed unlike other methods there is less risk of future storage around vital organs.

 

What's the difference between iLipo and Vaser lipo?

There are numerous differences between iLipo and Vaser liposuction - the main being one is surgical (Vaser lipo) and the other non surgical (iLipo). Your nurse will be able to answer all of your questions at your free consultation but we will address some key differences*:

Vaser Lipo*

  • Surgical procedure that requires incisions and anaesthetic
  • A little soreness or discomfort around treatment area reported for several days after procedure 
  • A few patients experience bruising for up to four weeks
  • Causes some swelling 
  • Fat cells are remove, not reduced, so fat will not return to the treated area unless considerable weight is gained

iLipo*

  • Non surgical treatment that does not require anaesthetic
  • A virtually painless procedure with no downtime or recovery time
  • There may be redness which disappears within a couple of hours
  • Causes minimal short-term swelling
  • Tightens skin as part of the treatment - additional alternative treatments are not required 
  • Treatment course and a healthy lifestyle will yield optimum results, additional treatments can be acquired to maintain results.

Will I have bruising or swelling?

This is non surgical liposuction, there are no incisions  to cause long-term bruising or swelling.

However, you may experience some redness and minor swelling directly after the treatment if you have sensitive skin but this resolves quickly - approximately 12-24 hours following treatment*. This indicates the increase of localised blood flow to the tissue by the massaging action and radio-frequency treatment stage. While very rare some clients experience some very mild bruising which quickly fades.

It is worth remembering that some cardiovascular exercise is required for optimum results within two days of your treatment. What Should I Know About Fat Cells? 

Fat cells are not just storage bins for excess calories. They are very active cells that produce a variety of substances that influence your body weight, how many calories you eat, and how those calories are used as a source of energy. Health problems, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, liver disease, cardiovascular disease, and certain types of cancer, can arise when these cells begin to secrete too much or too little of these substances.

You are born with a set number of fat cells. If you eat more calories than your body needs, your fat cells stretch to store these extra calories as triglycerides. You can gain new fat cells if the existing cells have enlarged to their maximum size. Once created, fat cells remain in your body forever; they may shrink in size when you lose weight, but they never go away — unless they are removed by liposuction.
